Throughout my pregnancy, I experienced firsthand the same compassion, reassurance, and exceptional care that I've watched my colleagues give so many other families.

Then, when it was finally time to welcome our precious Maya into the world, I wasn't just surrounded by colleagues—I was surrounded by friends, mentors, and people who felt like family. In my most vulnerable moments, you made me feel safe, heard, respected, and deeply cared for. That is a gift I will carry with me forever.

As a midwife, I've had the privilege of walking alongside so many women as they welcomed their babies into the world. I've always known how special this work is—but to actually experience pregnancy, labour, and birth myself has given me an entirely new appreciation for the care we provide. Walking this journey as both a midwife and a mother has deepened my empathy, strengthened my love for this profession, and reminded me that the smallest acts of kindness can leave the biggest impact.

As a first-time mom, I stepped into this journey with so many questions, uncertainties, and emotions. After doing my research, I knew that Grace Birthing Centre was where I wanted to be. Your values, your philosophy, and the way you honour both mothers and babies aligned so perfectly with my own hopes for birth. From my very first appointment, I knew I had found something special.

Every single person I encountered welcomed me with warmth, kindness, and genuine care. The love and passion that radiates through Grace Birthing Centre is something truly remarkable. After every appointment, I left feeling empowered, supported, and more excited to meet my baby. You gave me confidence in myself and in my ability to bring new life into the world.

I had the incredible privilege of welcoming my daughter into the world alongside our amazing doula, Beauty, and our wonderful midwives, Caitlin and Sthoko. These women hold a very special place in my heart. During the most intense and vulnerable moments of labour, they never left my side. They encouraged me when I felt I had nothing left to give, reminded me of my strength when I doubted myself, and helped me keep my eyes on the beautiful prize waiting at the end of it all.

Their patience, compassion, reassurance, and unwavering belief in me carried me through one of the hardest and most rewarding experiences of my life. Because of them, I felt safe. I felt heard. I felt respected. Most importantly, I felt deeply cared for.

It has taken me a week to fully process and put into words my experience at Grace Birthing Hospital. As I write this, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and joy.
The care and treatment I received felt incredibly personal, and every mother will understand how comforting and reassuring that feeling is during such an important journey. From my antenatal visits right through to the birth of my baby, the staff were warm, compassionate, and genuinely supportive.
Labour and delivery would not have been as manageable for me without their dedication and encouragement. Although there were some unexpected challenges on the day of my delivery, the team worked tirelessly to ensure that I could safely give birth at their facility. Their professionalism, commitment, and care gave me confidence and peace of mind during a very emotional time.

✨ The most beautiful birth experience we could have ever asked for ✨
On 21 January 2026 our precious baby boy, Aiden Opperman, was born at Grace Birthing Centre in Westville — and it was truly the most calm, empowering and beautiful experience of my life.
From the moment my husband and I arrived, we were welcomed with so much warmth, kindness and genuine care. Every single person there made us feel safe, supported and loved. From the reception ladies to the midwives and the doula — every staff member treated us with such compassion and respect.
My doula never left my side. Through every contraction she helped me breathe, rubbed my back, used a warm wheaty bag, and helped me move into positions like squatting that made the contractions easier to handle. The midwives and doula worked together so gently, always encouraging me and helping me listen to my body.
What meant the most to me was that they never pushed me to do anything I wasn’t ready for. They respected every decision and simply supported me with patience, calm guidance and so much love. They helped me work through every contraction and reminded me that my body knew exactly what to do.
During the pushing stage they were right there with me, encouraging me and keeping the environment calm and peaceful. After Aiden was born, they helped me clean up and continued taking such amazing care of both me and my baby.
They also cared so beautifully for my husband, making sure he felt supported and part of every moment.
They celebrated the special moments with us, but also gave us precious time alone as a new family. Physically and emotionally they took incredible care of all three of us.
To every single person at Grace Birthing Centre — the midwives, doulas, reception staff and everyone behind the scenes — thank you. Your kindness, patience and dedication mean more than words can explain.
We will forever be grateful that our son Aiden entered the world in such a calm, loving and respectful environment.

They explained everything clearly, respected my birth plan, and checked on me constantly postpartum. The rooms were calm and comfortable. This is my second birth at Grace and when I found out I was pregnant again, there wasn’t a doubt in my mind where I’d choose to go.

I cannot speak highly enough of the incredible team at Grace. Not just the midwives, but every single member of staff! From the very beginning, at every single appointment, we were greeted with so much love and many warm embraces. My appointments never felt rushed, I never felt like just a number, and I genuinely felt that the team wanted me to have the best birthing experience, like they were rooting for me! There is an atmosphere of calm, confidence and genuine care that makes all the difference especially during a vulnerable time and when natural birth seems like such a scary, unattainable thing nowadays.

I’ll forever be grateful to the midwives and team for supporting me through the birth of my two daughters. I would’ve never had the chance to have the experiences I did without Grace! In both my births I have felt completely seen, supported and safe in their hands! Their deep knowledge, professionalism and unwavering encouragement during both my births was so evident in every moment. Grace provided the perfect environment for me to have a positive birthing experience!

As a low risk pregnancy mom with only natural birth history, It’s taken me careful contemplation to write this review because delivering our baby at at Grace Birthing Hospital was an exceedingly special experience. From the very first antenatal appointment meeting the medical staff and midwives Sister Frances, Sister Wendy, Sr Micaela, Sr Lihle and my stellar doula Precious Cele, to front of house staff who welcomed me with warm smiles at each appointment till the very end. As a grieving mother with a recent loss I wished for my birth experience to be as natural and as intentional as possible, a team that would hold space for my mental and physical health and they did just that. “ We will help you crossover” was a promise they made and fulfilled. I received good counsel, consistent and clear medical monitoring, individualised care throughout the pregnancy. I left each appointment feeling lighter, less anxious and more empowered. The facilities are outstanding, with a birth that is curated to suit your individual needs whilst providing a high standard of medical and holistic care. Through a birth plan, you know what to expect and as a mom you are given space to set the mood and tone for the arrival of your baby. Even though ofcourse every pregnancy and birth are different and the day itself is unpredictable, Grace Birthing staff and the facilities they offer provide an atmosphere that support the mom for an ultimately positive experience. My husband felt included unlike our other private hospital birth experiences, there was no rush, no invasive routines everything was consensual and gentle without a fear based approach. Immediately after baby was born we were given space to bond, time for the umbilical cord to transfer all nutrients to baby before cutting. The birthing team was supportive and patient from start to finish. When my labour delayed the team patiently monitored the situation and offered alternative measures with close monitoring.
As a 3rd time mom, I left the hospital with a happy healthy baby, feeling grounded & empowered for newborn care and just mentally at peace after such a spectacular journey at Grace. Every mother deserves such an experience. Can’t wait to go back for my postnatal visits and the IV drip range they now offer!

I gave birth to my little one at Grace's and from the beginning the entire staff has been so hands on. The process of getting to know the midwives and really feeling comfortable in the birthing centre was incredible to say the least - from the initial appointment I got really excited for the labour and birth process as they have created a very calm and welcoming environment that feels more like a little holiday away from home rather than a hospital setting.

From my experience, my little one decided to come on her own terms, so even though I didn't get the exact birth that I had initially planned on, I felt that my own safety as well as my little one's were in the right hands as the midwives guided us to what would be the best for us as well as respecting our decisions to the best of their capabilities.

I will forever look back on the birth with extreme gratitude for how everything panned out as our birth story is definitely unique to us and Grace's helped navigate that in the absolute best way possible.

At the end of this entire process I really feel part of the Grace's family and I will definitely be back for baby number 2!
